Monday Music Monkey Review

Hello my bitches,
Yeah, yeah I know it’s not Monday but I had a huge weekend punishing my liver, I actually drank three bottles of scotch! I woke with the filthiest hangover ever, hence Monday Music Monkey has moved to Tuesday.

Seeing as I slept most of yesterday I am in an awesome mood (not really) I am in an awesome mood because I have been listening to the one and only John Fogerty and his best of album ‘The Long Road Home’. This album marked a turning point for John Fogerty as it is the first time that he has sung all the Creedence Clearwater Revival songs that were so much a part of his life, until the record companies screwed him over.

Man this album packs a punch from the opening track “Born on the Bayou” with it’s powerful almost angry vocals and absolutely cracking music. It the launches into the hit song “Bad Moon Rising” which was one of the biggest Creedence hits. Then it launches into “Centerfield” which was one of John Fogerty’s solo hits. But the hits don’t stop coming with ” Who’ll Stop The Rain” & “Rambunctious Boy” then the next song which happens to be one of this Monkey’s most favourite songs of all ” Fortunate Son” this song is just as potent today as when it was written what with all the wars you filthy primates go into, (it seems that, as far as I am concerned us Monkeys are so much more intelligent, we are lovers not fighters and lets face it I rather fuck than fight). Anyway back to the album ‘Lookin’ out my backdoor’ is another classic song that you just can’t not sing along too. We have another couple of songs before we hit the absolutely brilliant ‘Down on the corner’ this song about buskers is awesome. I am a huge fan of buskers and will go out of my way to give them money, at least they are actually doing something rather than holding up a sign wanting something for free. I mean for fucks sake even I do stuff for money (I don’t accept money for it though, if the tax department is reading, they are all cash gifts fuck you very much).
One of the stand out songs for me is ‘The old man down the road’ the way it starts with this awesome guitar intro, this song is one that John Fogerty did on his solo album ‘Eye of the zombie’ and the guitar work is electric, man that boy can play! The vocals are amazing and it is so catchy. Anyway the songs are all good, they’ll get your feet tapping and you’ll be singing along, they are all hits every single song on this album is a hit and there are actually too many to list and right about now it seems like too much work to run through them all (my hangover headache is coming back arrgh!).
This album has so many hits/classics that you will be playing this album in ten years time and that is the beauty of John Fogerty’s music, it is timeless, it has a maturity and power that transcends time. The lyrics are intelligent and thought provoking. The music is well crafted and it is truly the work of a genius. I highly recommend this album and know that it if you add it to your collection, you will be playing it for as long as you live! and on that note I am giving it a massive 5 shots of whiskey out of 5.
Peace out my bitches!

    Herbie The
    Music Monkey

What’s up my bitches? I’m Herbie, the music reviewer. I love bananas and whiskey and I just love music and I will rate any CD in my own special way. See what I do is whack the headphones on and play it loud, if I love it and it moves me I will crack out the dance moves (the moonwalk is my signature move, that and the reach around, but that’s another story) or if it’s heavy I will head bang, and if I hate it well the monkey comes out in me and I will usually smear the CD in my own excrement (hey I’m a monkey after all).
