Today I will be reviewing one of my alltime favourites yes that's right, the one and only ‘Ladyhawke’
Man this little kiwi chick rocks. She is indeed a rare find. Redi tells me that she loves video games (Redi is addicted to wii Virtua Tennis, and yes I beat you fair and square, the ball was out you skanky bitch! the umpire called so suck my balls BITCH!).
Now back to Ladyhawke. This girl is every guys fantasy, A chick that plays video games in her knickers now that’s the bomb. She has that scruffy, so needs some lovin’ look about her that I find irresistible. I am not quite sure about the cats on the cover, unfortunately when I think of cats I always think of the Simpson’s with that ‘crazy cat lady’, but she is an artist and I will cut her some slack. Anyway I’m actually a big fan of pussy.
Now the album.
From the opening track “Magic” with it’s cool introduction, as you readers know I am a big fan of the intro to any song, it really sets the tone for the rest of the song and this song succeeds, it’s catchy and gets your feet tapping. We then move onto “Manipulating Woman”, again the intro with syth and drums then vocals that kick in. Her vocals are amazing, she sure can sing! This song is one that Redi can relate to, no one can manipulate like a woman, especially if she is playing video games in her knickers. The lyric that I love is “you are completely twisted, so completely evil” I love it, so does Redi!
Then we go to her smash hit “My Delirium” , this song is awesome, it’s really infectious you can’t help but like it. It really becomes one of your favourite songs, the lyrics are catchy, the chorus is well crafted, and the music with it’s electro syth is pure genius and it is also very well sung and as you can see it is my favourite song on the album.
“Better than Sunday has a real 80’s sound, it has a garage feel to it that just works for Ladyhawke. “Another Runaway” is a song about relationships and judging from the lyrics, it seems that Ladyhawke is singing and writing from experience, which is the only way to
write a song, it is again very catchy and you will find yourself singing along to it in no time.
“Love don’t live here” is a another gem a bit of a slower song but the music and singing are incredible. “Back of the van” is the most 80’s sounding track on the whole album, it takes you back to an exciting time in music when you could pretty much do whatever the fuck you like and it didn’t really matter. 80’s music was great and somehow this song captures all that really well, without sounding like it’s some sort of retro crap, but that seems to be the wonder of Ladyhawke, using influences so blatantly yet she twists them and gets away with it and it WORKS!
“Paris is Burning” I saw this clip and it seemed to be so different from all the formula crap that is infecting the airways at the moment. It had me enthralled and this is one song that grows and grows on you. Definitely a high point on the album.
“Professional Suicide” has a great retro 80’s introduction with synthesisers, electronic drum beat and “nah, nah, nah” lyrics it is actually quite a good song.
Then we move onto “Dusk till dawn” a hit song for Ladyhawke, i can’t actually tell you why I like this song but it might have something to do with the “bang, bang, bang on the wall from dusk till dawn” lyric I like it and don’t know why. “Oh my” is Ok it really didn’t do much for me, alot slower song and it doesn’t have that same feel the other songs have. It does showcase her versatility and vocal prowess. The song “Crazy world” is a deep and meaning full song, full of potent lyrics that usually only an experienced song writer can produce and it is sung with a passion and intensity that I like. “Morning Dreams” has a sound and feel that can’t quite be described, it sounds like an 80’s love ballad but at the same time it doesn’t.
So all up for a debut album Ladyhawke has definitely shown that she will be a force to be reckoned with, watch out all you skanky bitches that sing about shit. Here is a lady with talent and song writing ability well beyond her years! It’s refreshing to see her chart because she so deserves it! A throughly refreshing change from the usually female crap. Ladyhawke, man it should be Ladytalented. I am giving this 4 shots of whiskey out of five. I am so looking forward to her next album, because if she has done this on debut, man the skies the limit for her.
Peace out my bitches until next Monday - go get the album and enjoy Ladyhawke!
