Today my rant is flags!
I am sick to death of people, the very people who talk about being patriotic! Wearing flags as underwear, you know the ones that have shoes with an image of a flag on them, then they dry themselves with a towel with you guessed it an image of a flag on it.
Now a flag is a symbol, here is the dictionary meaning of a flag ” a piece of cloth that is raised on a pole and used as an emblem” (Reader’s Digest Word Power Dictionary - pg 364) so what you say, that’s absolutely true it is just a piece of cloth, well, a flag is an emblem an emblem of a country, now here’s where I have a problem, many countries have fought under that flag and like most wars, many people have died for that flag. Our graveyards are full of soldiers that died and when soldiers die in battle they traditionally have the flag draped over their coffins and then once they are about to be buried the flag is handed to their next of kin. So a flag ceases to be a piece of cloth, it becomes something so much more.
Now imagine your wearing your flag undies and about to put them in the wash when you notice a skid mark, that’s right a shit stain, so now you have basically crapped on that very flag! So you’re wearing your lovely shoes with a flag on them when you step in dog shit, not to mention your fungal infection oozing all over the flag! Do you see my point. What about when you wipe your filthy pits on your flag towel.
See, these people are not being patriotic they are being an arseholes. So don’t hide behind patriotism, because if you truly loved your country you wouldn't be so disrespectful to it’s flag.
